JAMB CAPS 2026: Admission in Progress, Recommended, Not Admitted — All Status Meaning & What To Do

Meaning of all JAMB CAPS admission status messages and what to do 2026

Now that JAMB 2026 results are fully out, the next place every candidate visits every single day is JAMB CAPS — Central Admission Processing System. But the moment you login and click Admission Status, you start seeing short messages like Admission in Progress, Recommended, Not Admitted, Awaiting Result and many more — and most of you do not know exactly what they mean, if it is good or bad, and exactly what action you should take or avoid.

Many candidates have panicked unnecessarily because they saw Not Admitted and thought it was FINAL, while others relaxed too early, seeing Admission in Progress and missed important steps. In this guide, I explain EVERY SINGLE STATUS you will see on CAPS this year, what it truly means from JAMB’s own system, and exactly what you must do at each stage.

🟢 1. NOT ADMITTED ⚠️ MOST MISUNDERSTOOD

WHAT IT MEANS:
This is the DEFAULT status for EVERYONE from day one. IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE BEEN REJECTED. It simply means:
Your school has NOT YET processed, shortlisted or recommended you. They have not touched your file at all.

Schools admit in BATCHES: Merit → Catchment → ELDS → Supplementary → 2nd Batch → 3rd Batch. Until your name enters any list, it stays here. It can remain like this till October 2026 and suddenly change overnight.

✅ WHAT TO DO:
  • DO NOT PANIC, do not do Change of Course in a hurry
  • ✅ Keep checking EVERY 2 DAYS, not every hour
  • ✅ Make sure O’Level is fully uploaded ✅ visible
  • ✅ Prepare hard for Post‑UTME

🟡 2. ADMISSION IN PROGRESS ✅ VERY GOOD SIGN

WHAT IT MEANS:

Your school has SEEN YOUR NAME, SHORTLISTED YOU, AND IS NOW PROCESSING YOU. Your file is with the admission committee; they are verifying scores, O’Level, subject combination, and quota. You are inside the kitchen being cooked — food is not yet done.

This is the longest stage; it can last from 2 weeks to 2 months. 90% of people here are eventually admitted.

✅ WHAT TO DO:

  • WAIT PATIENTLY, do not disturb the school
  • ✅ Do NOT do Change of Course now — you will lose your spot
  • ✅ Ensure NO mistake in your data
  • ❌ Do not pay anyone to "speed it up" — it is automatic
🟡 3. RECOMMENDED 🟢 ALMOST THERE

YOUR SCHOOL HAS APPROVED YOU. They have formally sent your name to JAMB head office saying "WE WANT TO GIVE THIS PERSON ADMISSION". Now it is JAMB’S TURN to do final checks: cut‑off, subject combo, quota, biometrics. 98% of people here get full approval within 3–14 ,days.

✅ WHAT TO DO:

  • ✅ Rejoice quietly ✅ start preparing
  • ✅ Check daily for change to ADMISSION OFFERED / APPROVED
  • ❌ Do not accept anything yet — button not active

🟢 4. ADMISSION OFFERED / APPROVED / CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 FINAL WIN

WHAT IT MEANS:

JAMB HAS APPROVED ✅ SCHOOL HAS APPROVED ✅ YOU ARE ADMITTED OFFICIALLY.

The ACCEPT / REJECT button will now appear green and active. YOU HAVE LIMITED TIME — usually 7–14 DAYS ONLY. If you ignore it, it will be WITHDRAWN AUTOMATICALLY and given to another person.

✅ WHAT TO DO — DO WITHIN 48 HRS:
  • Click ACCEPT ADMISSION immediately
  • Print JAMB Admission Letter
  • Print JAMB Original Result again
  • Proceed to school for physical screening

⚪ 5. AWAITING RESULT / AWAITING O’LEVEL

WHAT IT MEANS:
  • Go to an accredited CBT centre → UPLOAD NOW
  • If WAEC/NECO is not yet out → wait, but upload within 48 hrs of release
🟠 6. TRANSFER APPROVED / TRANSFER PENDING

WHAT IT MEANS:

Your school says: "Your score is good, BUT TOO LOW FOR MEDICINE — we want to move you to MICROBIOLOGY / BIOCHEMISTRY / ANATOMY". They moved you to another course you did not choose. ACCEPT OR REJECT WITHIN 7 DAYS.

✅ WHAT TO DO:

  • ✅ If you like the new course → ACCEPT FAST
  • ❌ If you hate it → REJECT, go for Change of Course or supplementary

⚫ 8. NO RECORD FOUND / BLANK PAGE

WHAT IT MEANS:

  • CAPS not yet activated for your UTME year
  • Or you logged in with the wrong email
  • Or browser problem — use Chrome desktop mode

❌ 3 BIG MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WITH CAPS

  1. Seeing NOT ADMITTED & CHANGING COURSE IMMEDIATELY → You remove yourself from the list yourself
  2. DELAYING TO CLICK ACCEPT → Offer expires, gone forever
  3. CHECKING EVERY 30 MINUTES → Causes only high BP, status changes only 1–2 times a week MAX

✅ HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHECK?

  • June – mid July: Once in 2 days
  • Mid July – September: Once EVERY DAY preferably 7:00 – 9:00 AM — this is when JAMB updates mostly
  • October onwards: Once every 3 days

💡 FINAL WORDS FROM OGUDOS

JAMB CAPS was designed to be transparent, but because they use short technical phrases, it creates fear and confusion. Now you know exactly what every message means.

Admission is a PROCESS, not an event. It moves slowly, then suddenly changes overnight. Do not compare your status with your friend's. Your time will come. We at Ogudos will update you immediately if any new status appears or JAMB releases new guidelines.

Which status are you seeing right now? Drop it in the comments, and I will personally explain your case.
