JAMB Change Of Course & Institution 2026: Everything You Must Know

Your result is out, you have your score, and reality sets in: “This score cannot carry me for Medicine in UNN” OR “I actually prefer this other school now”. This is exactly why JAMB created Change of Course / Institution, part of the Correction Of Data service. But it is also where more candidates destroy their admission chances than anywhere else, because they change blindly without knowing the strict rules.

Here is every single official detail for 2026/2027, updated directly from JAMB guidelines.

OFFICIAL OPENING & CLOSING DATE

  • Opens: usually within 3–5 working days after release of UTME results → around 1 July 2026
  • Runs for approx 4–6 WEEKS ONLY, closes strictly mid‑August 2026
  • NO EXTENSION EVER GIVEN, not even one day
  • Price: ₦2,500 OFFICIAL + remita charges = ₦2,550 — anything above ₦3,200 total is exploitation
  •  Can be done ONLY ONCE OFFICIALLY — after saving, it locks permanently

WHAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY CHANGE

  1. 1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th Choice Institution
  2. Course / Programme
  3. Change between University ↔ Polytechnic ↔ COE ↔ NCE
  4. Correct UTME subject combination
  5. Also available: Name, DOB, LGA, Passport — each ₦2,500 separately
WHAT IS FORBIDDEN (JAMB WILL REJECT AUTOMATICALLY)

  •  You CANNOT change to a course whose O’LEVEL SUBJECTS YOU DO NOT HAVE — e.g. you cannot switch to Engineering if you did not have Physics & Chemistry in WAEC
  • You CANNOT change UTME subjects AFTER results are released — only during registration
  •  Cannot change to courses that require special screening you never did e.g. Architecture, Nursing, Law aptitude test
  • Cannot change if admission has already been offered & accepted on CAPS

6 RULES 90 % OF CANDIDATES IGNORE

  1. JAMB SCORE MUST MEET MINIMUM: 140 Uni / 100 Poly / 100 COE — below this, system will reject
  2. CATCHMENT & ELDS APPLY AFTER CHANGE: Changing to a school outside your state may make it harder
  3. NEW CHOICE IMMEDIATELY BECOMES ACTIVE: Old choice vanishes instantly
  4. POST‑UTME ELIGIBILITY: If you change AFTER school has closed screening, YOU WASTED YOUR MONEY, you cannot sit their exam
  5. ONE PAY = ONE TRANSACTION: Changing 4 choices at once = still ₦2,500 total
  6. Biometric required: Must be done at accredited centre or JAMB office

BEST STRATEGY TO DECIDE

  • Pull out LAST YEAR departmental cut‑offs ONLY — ignore social media rumours
  • If your score is ≥ 15 points above last cut‑off: STAY, don’t touch anything
  • If 0–14 points: weigh risk carefully
  • If BELOW last year: CHANGE IMMEDIATELY to related less competitive course
  • SMARTEST MOVE: Keep same school, change ONLY course → retains all your history

 FAQs

Q: Can I do it myself online?
A: You make payment on portal, but final approval & biometric must be at accredited centre.
Q: Will it affect my result?
A: ZERO IMPACT, score remains exactly same.

MY ADVICE

Change is NOT compulsory. Many candidates destroy perfectly good chances changing into courses they know nothing about, just because friends are going there. Only change IF THE DATA CLEARLY SAYS YOUR SCORE WILL NOT QUALIFY. If you change, do it within first week, when system is smooth and all spaces still open.
