The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

WAEC released the following key statistics for the 2026 examination:

  • 1,959,668 candidates registered.
  • 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination.
  • 1,834,695 candidates had their results fully processed and released.
  • 1,200,514 candidates obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • This represents 61.54% of candidates who sat the examination.
  • 167,486 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
  • 116,031 results are still being processed.

These figures provide an overview of the performance of candidates in this year's examination and show that more than six out of every ten candidates achieved the minimum requirement commonly needed for admission into many tertiary institutions.

WAEC explained that while most candidates have already received their results, not every result was released immediately.

Withheld Results

The examination body also withheld the results of 167,486 candidates because of alleged examination malpractice.

WAEC said the affected cases will be reviewed according to its established procedures before final decisions are made. A withheld result does not automatically mean a final cancellation, as each case is considered individually.
