The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

In my years of advising students, this is always the most anxious period for parents and candidates alike. The announcement brings an end to weeks of anticipation. Candidates who sat for the examination can now check their results through the official WAEC result-checking portal using a valid examination number and result-checking PIN.

According to WAEC, the examination was conducted using the computer-based format for school candidates, with candidates participating from Nigeria and selected neighbouring countries.

2026 WASSCE Performance Statistics

WAEC released the following key statistics for the 2026 examination:

  • 1,959,668 candidates registered.

  • 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination.

  • 1,834,695 candidates had their results fully processed and released.

  • 1,200,514 candidates obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents 61.54% of candidates who sat the examination.

  • 167,486 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice.

  • 116,031 results are still being processed.

These figures show that more than six out of every ten candidates achieved the minimum requirement commonly needed for admission into many tertiary institutions. (If you need to upload this result for admission, read our Guide to Uploading O'Level Results to JAMB CAPS here).

Breakdown of the Results

1. Results Released

The majority of candidates whose scripts were successfully processed can now access their results online through the official WAEC portal.

2. Results Still Being Processed

WAEC stated that some results are still undergoing processing. Candidates in this category are advised to remain patient and continue checking the official portal for updates.

3. Withheld Results

The examination body withheld the results of 167,486 candidates because of alleged examination malpractice. WAEC said the affected cases will be reviewed according to its established procedures before final decisions are made.

(Note: A withheld result does not automatically mean a final cancellation. Each case is considered individually. Read our Guide on WAEC Result Not Showing here for more information).

NYSC Allawee: How to Survive in Your Posted State

A color-coded map of Nigeria showing the cost of living tiers for NYSC corps members: red for high, yellow for medium, and green for low. The moment of truth has arrived. You've opened the portal, and your NYSC call-up letter is staring back at you. For better or worse, your state of deployment is sealed. The excitement (or dread) is quickly followed by a very practical question: Can I actually survive on the federal allowance ("allawee") in this state? The reality is that the NYSC experience, and how far your money goes, varies drastically depending on where you are posted. The ₦33,000 federal allowance might feel comfortable in one state but will barely cover your rent in another. Having spoken with dozens of corps members who have served across different regions, I have seen first-hand how far proper financial planning can stretch that allowance. Understanding the cost of living is the key to planning your finances and making your service year a success. Here’s a pract...
