JAMB Clarifies "Admission in Progress" Status on CAPS 2026

Understand what your CAPS status means before taking action.

If you checked your JAMB CAPS admission status and saw "Admission in Progress," you may be wondering what it means and whether you have already been offered admission.

In my years of advising students, I have seen how this specific status causes massive anxiety. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently clarified the meaning of this status on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Here is exactly what it means and what you should do. (For a full breakdown of every CAPS status, read our Ultimate Guide to JAMB CAPS Statuses here).

What Does "Admission in Progress" Mean?

JAMB explained that "Admission in Progress" means your admission process is still being completed.

An institution may have proposed you for admission, but the process is still awaiting the required final approval before the admission can be fully processed. Your institution has started processing your file, but JAMB CAPS has not yet changed the status to "Admitted."

Does It Mean I Have Been Admitted?

No. Do not treat this as a final admission offer. The status you ultimately want to see is Admitted.

Once your CAPS status changes to "Admitted," the Accept/Reject button will become active, and you can proceed with the appropriate action.

What Does "Not Admitted" Mean?

If your status says "Not Admitted," it means you have not yet been offered admission at that point.

However, JAMB has clarified that this does not necessarily mean you will not be admitted later. Admission exercises continue in batches. Candidates who see "Not Admitted" should keep checking their CAPS status rather than assuming the process is over.

What Should You Do If Your Status Shows "Admission in Progress"?

If your dashboard shows this status, do not panic. Follow these steps:

  1. Keep checking CAPS: Monitor your status regularly for changes, but don't check every 5 minutes.

  2. Check your school portal: Some institutions publish admission lists on their own websites before JAMB updates CAPS.

  3. Upload your O'Level: Ensure your O'Level result is properly uploaded to your JAMB profile. (Read our Guide on Uploading O'Level Results to CAPS here).

  4. Verify your details: Confirm that the institution and course shown on your profile are exactly what you applied for.

  5. Avoid paying agents: Do not pay anyone who claims they can manually change your CAPS status to "Admitted." It is a scam.

How to Check Your CAPS Status

  1. Visit the official JAMB e-Facility portal.

  2. Log in with your JAMB registration details.

  3. Select CAPS, then click Admission Status.

  4. Review your current status. If it still says "Not Admitted" or "Admission in Progress," continue monitoring while the exercise is ongoing.

What to Do When You See "Admitted"

If your status changes to "Admitted," review the information carefully. If the institution and course are correct, follow JAMB's instructions to Accept the admission immediately. Do not leave the offer unattended, as it may expire.

After accepting, follow your school's instructions for clearance and registration. (Read our Guide on Printing Your JAMB Result Slip here for your screening documents).

Can a School Give Admission Without JAMB CAPS?

Be extremely careful with any admission offered outside the official JAMB process. JAMB has stated that admissions offered by tertiary institutions must be reflected on CAPS. If a school tells you that you have been admitted, check your JAMB profile and make sure the admission is properly reflected.

Important Deadline for Older Admission Offers

Candidates with outstanding admission offers dating from 2021 to 2026 should note JAMB's deadline to accept or reject those offers. JAMB extended the deadline to September 30, 2026. Affected candidates should check their CAPS profiles and take the required action before the deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Is "Admission in Progress" a good sign on JAMB CAPS?

A: Yes, it means your file is actively being processed. However, it is not a final confirmation of admission until it changes to "Admitted."

Q2: Can "Admission in Progress" change to "Not Admitted"?

A: Yes, a candidate's status can change while the admission exercise is being processed. Continue monitoring your CAPS rather than assuming an interim status is final.

Q3: What if my school says I have been admitted but JAMB says "Not Admitted"?

A: Contact your institution's admission office and continue monitoring your JAMB CAPS. The school's internal admission process and the JAMB system may not update at exactly the same time.

Final Advice

If your JAMB CAPS currently shows "Admission in Progress" or "Not Admitted," remain patient. JAMB has clarified that updates will continue as the exercise progresses. Use only official JAMB and institutional channels, and avoid anyone promising to manipulate your status.

A color-coded map of Nigeria showing the cost of living tiers for NYSC corps members: red for high, yellow for medium, and green for low. The moment of truth has arrived. You've opened the portal, and your NYSC call-up letter is staring back at you. For better or worse, your state of deployment is sealed.
